Customizing Styles in Firefox

I’ve been struggling with the userChrome.css stylesheet to tweak my styles in Firefox for ages now. I just want a multi-row bookmarks toolbar (no, we’re not talking multi-row tabs, but multi-row bookmarks toolbar). How hard can it be?

Generally speaking, in tweaking the userChrome.css stylesheet, it always seemed like I’d eventually come up against bugs in my styles — especially when upgrading to new versions of Firefox, which usually caused my styles to break entirely. So when I recently upgraded to Firefox 3.0, it was back to the drawing board, again, trying to get back my multi-row bookmarks toolbar and other custom styles. <sigh>

That’s when I came across the Firefox Styles extension and Userstyles.org. No more trying to write the styles myself, or guessing if the styles will work. Userstyles.org provides a plethora of options for tweaking your Firefox chrome. You don’t even have to reboot Firefox to get the styles to take effect. It’s very cool.

You can get the Stylish extension here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108. However, it won’t do anything until you download and install styles from Userstyles.org.

The Fishstick

Ok, I’m officially obsessed with the Fishstick. It’s a new dance craze Merlin Mann and his gang on You Look Nice Today are starting.

So here’s the deal… As “a service to young people,” the YLNT gang wanted to give them a “go to” move. So they came up with the Fishstick, which must be performed to the “Tighten-up” song.

What does the Fishstick look like? Again, according to the YLNT gang…

“Unless you’re really staring at a person who’s doing the fishstick, you wouldn’t know that they were dancing.”

“Like a slight twisting of the torso, maybe accompanied by a grimace…”

“The Fishstick is mostly happening in your head…”

Kinda like a “slight palsy.”
